A few highlights from the cabin guestbooks of the ACT

Tales from the Trail

Along the Arctic Circle Trail, each of the huts has a guestbook where people can list notes about the trail conditions, small anecdotes, or communications to other hikers coming behind them. For us, these were our primary source of entertainment in the evenings after camp chores were out of the way. These books wore a plethora of humor, trail advice and encouraging messages of hope to anyone struggling. While all the messages were nice to read, those that discussed drama and suffering on the trail were our favorites.

We would gather around and each night and scour the logbooks for English entries. We listened to the unfolding saga of Diedre's hat and those that had found it and were valiantly trying to return it.

Ryan and Rosalina who wrote fictional stories of the misery striking their expedition at every turn (6 souls were lost!)

The reports of clouds of mosquitos and lakes still frozen were almost humorous given the amazing weather we were experiencing.

Here are a few of the highlights:

No Way José

José, I've have been there. You have written what we all think in our darkest moments on the trail. From time to time when things aren't going right, I remember I could be at home cuddled up with my dog. I salute you José and hope you enjoyed your hike.

There were colored pencils in the huts and many talented hikers made use of them.

Christine left this beautiful hut for us to admire

Some of them were funny and others like these were truly exceptional and deserved some recognition.

I think I was lost in this exact thicket for an hour straight on day 8!!! - Thanks Amy!

And some were entirely too relatable - I had just walked through endless thickets just like these on day 8! Others were just fun:

Sam fought the good fight!

The guestbooks covered people's highs and lows. They were overwhelming positive and show people from all over the world are making the journey and appreciating the striking beauty Greenland has to offer.

Happy hiking!
