The Trip Before the Trip

Sometimes the trip there is a journey in itself.

Getting There:

From Canada, we got to spend a day wandering around Copenhagen taking in the sites. A first for me plenty of architecture to wonder at, good coffee and pastries.

We wandered around this vibrant city
Overhyped? Or a must see attraction? You decide

Eventually we made it through to Kangerlussuaq, Greenland. There isn't much to this town outside of the airport. With a spare day, we set out for a hike to a local peak, recommended by our guidebook. The hike out of town had us passing many interesting sights including the closest thing to a forest we would see.

We hiked out along the dusty road, past signs of abandoned rocket launch sites and climbed to the peak of Sugar Loaf Mountain. The summit sits at 352m and we had clear views back to town and all the way out to the ice cap.

We toured the ice cap on a gloriously clear day. Blue skies and sun had the ice shimmering with strips or arctic blues running throughout.

So cool
The colors were incredible on this sunny day
Rivers ran through the ice melt
Crystal clear lakes tucked away behind a ridge of ice
