Sailing Season is Back
What a glorious time of year! The boat has been launched, the mast raised and we are back on the water! Of course before that goes a couple weeks of random boat improvements that continue through the rest of the season.
Today I give you a salute to winches. I serviced and replaced a cabin top winch for this season and can't get enough of these winch glamour shots.
These things take a lot of load and are built to last. For a 60 year old winch it is still looking fine!
It's so pretty inside. I bet there is a lot of life left in this old winch. The main winches were replaced before I go the boat, this was the sole remaining original.
Here is the modern Barient winch, I picked up a couple of previously loved winches and loved cleaning them and getting them running smoothly again.
The original winch used a piece of flat bar for the handle. This Barient has the traditional winch handle. We usually don't need a handle but it's good to have options.
Is the winch going to help use out there on the race course? I don't know but we'll take any edge we can. See you on the river!
